Details of the Mayor and Mayoress
The Mayor
The Mayor for 2007-08 is Charter Trustee Cllr Mrs Valerie Razzaq.
Valerie was born, bred and educated in High Wycombe. She attended two local schools: Sands Primary and the all girls school at Mill End Road which is now known as Millbrook School.
Valerie was very keen on athletics and was a member of the Phoenix Harriers with whom she ran to County level.
She worked for a brief spell at Elco Plastics where she met and fell in love with Razz whom she married at the age of 18. Valerie and Razz went to live in Leicester for a short time before returning to High Wycombe in 1963.
Valerie has three sons and four grandchildren.
Valerie was very supportive as Mayoress to her husband Razz when he was Mayor of High Wycombe in 1988-89. They both attended a large number of engagements and raised over £60,000.00 for their chosen charity: Scannappeal, raising funds for Wycombe Hospital.
Sadly in 1999, Valerie’s beloved Razz passed away after being happily married for thirty-seven years which left a large gap in her life. Valerie has managed to pick herself up and took the decision to try her hand as a Town Councillor. In 2003 Valerie was selected and voted into the Sands Ward where she has helped with a number of projects in the community.
In May 2007 Valerie was re-elected as a Town Councillor in her new ward: Booker and Cressex.
Her interests include archaeology, architecture and gardening.
The Mayoress
The Mayoress for 2007-08 is Mrs Janet Rolfe
Janet was born and bred in High Wycombe. She has been married to John for twenty-five years and has two grown up children, Jonathan and Justine.
Janet has been involved with several charities and organisations in High Wycombe over a number of years: the furniture project which is part of High Wycombe Central Aid Society, The Wycombe Charity Carnival, Wycombe Dial-a-Ride and Wycombe District Neighbourhood Watch Association.
Janet has also helped on a number of Mayor’s Appeals committees and received a Mayor’s Medal in 2005 in recognition of her work.
Her interests include going to the theatre and being involved in community events.
